Charles A. Carpenter, Professor Emeritus of English at Binghamton University, has a Master’s in Library Science), Kent State University; his Ph.D., with speciality in modern drama, is from Cornell.
He is best known for his massive two-volume work, Modern Drama Scholarship and Criticism, 1966-1990: An International Bibliography. In addition to two other reference books, he has published Bernard Shaw and the Art of Destroying Ideals: The Early Plays; Dramatists and the Bomb: American and British Playwrights Confront the Nuclear Age, 1945-1964; Bernard Shaw as Artist-Fabian, and nearly 100 essays in journals and books amounting to nine books, five bibliographical, four critical.
