The Slingsby Company present The Young King, adapted by Nicki Bloom, directed by Andy Packer, Opera House, Sydney 7th-12th November 2017
The Green Hour, an immersion in late Victorian England, takes place in the beautiful and atmospheric Pianola Museum in Amsterdam on the 10th of November.
Performing poets Simon Mulder and David Kwa will introduce you to the Green Fairy – absinthe – with a demonstration of the traditional absinthe ritual, bring prose, poetry and drama by Oscar Wilde and his contemporaries, and take you on a journey through his rise and fall.
Before, during the break and after the show, the Poetry Bar will serve absinthe accompanied by sonnets by the English decadents; as the ritual of absinthe preparation takes about one minute, and reciting a sonnet takes one minute as well, the Poetry Bar combines the two. When the sonnet is finished, your drink is prepared!
Daan van de Velde (piano) and Susanne Winkler (soprano) will perform English art songs.
Also, we have the very special world premiere of a long lost work for piano and voice on a text by Oscar Wilde; his Ballad of Reading Gaol (1898) was set to music in 1920 by the forgotten Dutch composer Henri Zagwijn (1878-1954), and probably never performed before.
November 10th, show starts 8.30 PM
Geelvinck Pianola Museum, Amsterdam
Entry €15,- , Stadspas and students €12,50
Incidentally, the aforementioned Poetry Bar will also be present at the Poetry Brothel held in London’s West End Arts Theatre on the 18th of November, which has an Oscar Wilde theme.
